We designed, fabricated, and installed a unique and flexible storage system for a family living on the east side of Providence. Morgan and Rachel engaged us to rethink the entry way to their home. When we started the project, their 50 square foot foyer space was cluttered with the corollaries of an active, four-person family’s lifestyle – and they wanted to introduce a little order and rationality to the space. To answer that need, we designed a compact yet flexible storage system to accommodate their clothing, shoes, bags, and outdoor items. The design revolves around an oversize pegboard, which the parents and the children can configure and reconfigure to suit their individual needs. In addition to flexing and rearranging as the family grows, it contributes to a sense of ownership over the structure of one’s environment and organization of one’s possessions.
